Xenon lamps

If the xenon flickers, cuts out and restarts or one side turns pink/purple — the bulb is at its end. If the headlight does not even try to strike (no flash), suspect the ballast. Quickest test: swap left and right bulbs — if the fault moves sides, it is the bulb.

Check the marking on the old bulb or the ballast. D1S/D3S have a built-in igniter; D2S/D4S do not. D1S and D2S run at 85 V, D3S and D4S at 42 V — not interchangeable across those groups, the wrong one kills the ballast. R instead of S means a reflector housing without a lens.

4300K is the OEM slightly warm white and gives the most usable light. 5000–6000K is pure white — a more modern look at nearly the same output. Above 6500K the light turns bluish and cuts through rain and fog worse, so we do not recommend it for headlights.

Xenon shifts colour over its life (towards pink) and loses output. A new bulb next to an old one looks completely different. That is why we offer sets — cheaper than two singles.
